"Blood Salt" Matted 8x10
Around a salt lake in western Uganda, family owned pools are passed down from generation to generation. Salt has been harvested from these pools since the 1400s. Here is one familyʼs pool that is filled with water through channels from the nearby lake. As water evaporates from the pools, salt forms crystals that can be easily harvested. The red color comes from iron in the water.
